Artists’ Talks at Huddersfield Art Gallery

Eight artists exhibiting in the Art Market Showcase Exhibition will be discussing their work in the gallery in January. All talks are free of charge but must be pre-booked.

Emily Stubbs
Tuesday 3 January 2012
1pm-2pm


Emily will explore the inspiration and influences behind her work. She will discuss how her ideas are developed through drawings, collage, cardboard models and finally ceramic pieces. Emily will demonstrate techniques such as slab building, surface decoration such as using coloured slips and mono-printing onto clay. She will also demonstrate the technique of transferring images onto ceramics using decal transfers. This exciting talk and demonstration to even includes a free sample to take home at the end! 

Priscilla Jones

Priscilla will share with us the unique techniques and processes she has developed over her 14 years as a textile practitioner. You will have the chance to see and handle Priscilla’s work and have the opportunity to see her demonstrate her techniques and ask questions offering a rare insight into her quirky world of sculptural and stitched teacups and teapots.

James’ talk will be an historical journey beginning with his first introduction to clay, through his time at the RCA and setting up a studio, and finalising with a discussion about his current work. 

Clare Lane
Friday 6 January 2012
2pm - 3pm


This informal talk will include a discussion about the processes involved in the production of her work, from the initial photography right through to the final stitching, with the opportunity to handle textile samples. She will discuss her inspiration and obsession with derelict industrial sites. The talk will last approximately 20 minutes but Clare will be happy to discuss her work and answer questions until 2pm.

"The immense scale of the moors and valleys in Yorkshire constantly overwhelm me with their magnificence. I am intrigued by the intimacy of the sky and land with their ever-changing roles of solidity and translucency". Join Dionne to discover her inspiration and techniques as she creates a unique piece of work during the talk/live demonstration.

Brendan Hesmondhalgh

Brendan Hesmondhalgh will discuss the ideas and techniques behind his work. The talk will include a demonstration on hand-building animal sculpture. 

Jamie Frost

Jamie Frost is a local fine artist working in sculpture, drawing and painting. He works figuratively and makes portraits, having recently been awarded the Talos award from the Society of Portrait Sculptors. As well as his figurative work, he will be discussing a series of pieces which are to do with physiological processes he is interested in. Jamie will also explain how he gained an insight into his own work by opening up his studio to others who wish to make art.

Jim Bond

Jim will be giving a talk about his work and his career to date, as an artist and what motivates and inspires him, using powerpoint to show images of the work. There will then be a question and answer session.

On street disabled parking is available by the Town Hall.
